Where to Golf This Summer in the Coachella Valley: A Local's Guide
Living at Ironwood Country Club for more than seventeen years, I have learned that golf here does not take a summer break. It simply moves indoors, shifts to earlier tee times, and gets a lot more affordable. If you are new to the desert or considering a move here, summer golf is one of those small details that says a lot about what daily life in the Coachella Valley actually feels like.
Whether you are scouting neighborhoods near a favorite course or just want to know where to play during a visit, here is a rundown of where locals are teeing off, practicing, and getting fitted for new clubs this season, drawn from a recent roundup in Palm Springs Life.
My Home Course: Ironwood Country Club
Since Ironwood is private and was not part of the roundup this post is drawing from, I want to give it a mention here. Ironwood Country Club has two 18-hole courses, North and South, winding through the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains. The South Course, which opened in 1974, was originally designed by Desmond Muirhead and Ted Robinson in consultation with Arnold Palmer, and was later refined by former PGA Tour player John Fought. Indian Wells: Two Courses in the Shadow of Eisenhower Mountain

La Quinta: From the Stadium Course to Simulator Bays
La Quinta remains one of the valley's deepest golf destinations. PGA West's Pete Dye Stadium Course is a bucket-list round for serious players, and summer rates make it far more accessible than it is in season. The Mountain and Dunes courses at the same club are worth a look too. For golfers who want to dial in their swing, the Bunker Bar at the Pete Dye Clubhouse has Trackman simulators, and the PGA West Performance Lab offers high-speed camera analysis with instructors who can translate the data into real changes.

Palm Desert: Renovated Greens and Serious Practice Facilities
Desert Willow Golf Resort remains one of the valley's most photographed courses, and its Firecliff layout underwent a recent renovation that included converting the greens to Mini Verde Bermuda. Classic Club, an Arnold Palmer design known for its par-3 12th hole, is best played in June before it closes for July and August.

What I appreciate about this list is how it reflects the way people actually live here in summer. Early tee times, indoor simulators, and off-peak rates are not compromises. They are simply how golf works in the desert from June through September, and they are part of why so many buyers who visit in summer end up falling for this place rather than waiting for a cooler month to look.
